International Womens Day

National Women’s Day (IWD)

I never really understood what National Women’s Day was all about, I hadn’t taken the time to appreciate its underlying message. I had naively assumed it was just another one of those made-up days, oh boy was I wrong.

This is what I learnt …

IWD come from two sources dating back to 1908

  1. The struggle of working-class women to form a trade union

  2. The fight for Women’s franchise

Whilst these were the initial sources, over the following decades' women around the world have stood up and demonstrated about pay, working conditions and the right to vote. Started in the United States, and by 1917 it was recognised around the world. Today we are still fighting for parity

Whilst time has moved on, today we acknowledge the IWD to give us the opportunity to draw attention to modern-day Women’s’ rights

Represented by the colours Purple for justice and dignity. Green symbolises hope and white represents purity. These colours date back to the original date of 1908.

This year's International Women’s Day theme is, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. If you want to know more use the link https://www.unwomen.org/.../international-womens-day-2023...

There is a website, which is not owned by one particular organisation or country but rather a collective. The website offers free guidance and resources, a directory of women owed Businesses supplying IWD and collaborative purpose-driven missions.

So today why not celebrate you …

Look at how far you have come and take pride in all your achievements, big, or small and just because you can.

Sometimes we are so focused on what went wrong, and what we could have done better we forget to acknowledge the courage we gathered to step out of our comfort zones, to tackle life’s ups and downs. With each step we take, we have the opportunity to learn and grow as individuals.

Today is a day to be proud of what YOU have achieved, to allow the sun to shine on you and spotlight your amazingness
