Attitude

Our attitude has a profound effect on our lives, so choosing to have a positive attitude rather than a negative one, is going to feel a whole lot more comfortable, not to mention rewarding.

Our attitude is responsible for the way we think and feel, and it also dictates the attitude that life has towards us. I am not just referring to other people, but also about how we view the world we live in.

We are familiar with the statements “they have a good attitude’ or “they have a bad attitude” but how does attitude, affect our lives?

Let’s say you have a bad attitude towards work, you moan about the company, the people in it, even the hours you work, then you are unlikely to enjoy your job or even be good at it. Your attitude will take you down the path of not caring and you will only see the negative things and never the good stuff. Now you have two choices, you can either change your attitude or change your job, as let’s face it, not many people would want to work with people who have a bad attitude.

Avoiding the pull to be drawn into someone’s else’s negative attitude

I live in a small village with one long road running through it. Whilst the speed limit is only 30 miles per hour, because its straight, many cars will do 40 plus. Often during my early morning walk, cars would speed through my village. I used to wave my arms to slow them down, and many a time I would receive a two-finger salute and felt compelled to return the favour.

What I began to realise was not only was this making me uncomfortable and angry, but my response was also bringing me down to their level and adopting their rather poor attitude. Now I leave them to wallow in their pitiful mindset and I am and left with my happy one.

Creating the impossible

When setting goals with my clients I encourage them to stretch their aspirations and vision. Sometimes the comment ‘that’s impossible’ arises, then I remind them that everything is impossible until it becomes possible, as beautifully demonstrated by the achievement of Robert Bannister and the 4-minute mile.

If you have been with me for a while, you will know I truly believe that we can have and do anything we desire if we have the right mindset. With mindset comes attitude and attitude effects our behaviour and how we see the world, so this is all very closely connected.

Take a few moments to reflect on the attitude you have towards yourself.

• Do you believe you are great at what you do, or do you praise others and put your own skills in the shadow?

• Do you wake up every morning excited to work on your goals, or do you believe that only others can achieve these great heights?

• Do you start your day with a smile or moan, about the day ahead?

Attitude feeds our behaviour, so if your attitude is negative then your behaviour will mirror this.

As humans we can control how we think, feel and behaviour so changing our attitude changes everything

Show your appreciation for others – when you reach out, say thank you, give praise, even for the smallest things, your energy will increase, and you will be passing on that wonderful energy to others.

Avoid gossiping – When someone talks behind someone else’s back, it is generally to gain alliance and support for their opinion and creates a lot of negative energy. Often if they are gossiping to you, they are gossiping about you too.

Be kind to yourself - You are as capable as the next person in achieving your desires. Most humans have the same abilities, it’s how often we practice and whether we are prepared to learn, that determines how far we can go.

Assume the best in others – Do your best to assume the best in others and spread optimism and a smile when you talk to them, you will be surprised to see the profound effect you can have on people, especially you.

Practice positive language – Use language that feels good, any words or statements that lowers your energy or mood is damaging to yourself. The use of positive language increases your vibration.
