From the day we are born, we quickly learn to adopt a ‘can do’ attitude. We develop an abundance of self-belief and confidence because of the experiences we encounter within our first few hours, days, and weeks of our life. We are consistently praised for our actions, as well as our cries being met with love, affection, and food.
This leads us to question whether or not there is such a thing as a naturally positive person.
Being an optimist is never about forcing yourself to only see the light in darkness, or the happiness in negative situations. Being an optimist simply means knowing things will be okay and understanding that negative emotions will not last a lifetime.
When we choose to only see the positive, we can end up deluding ourselves into believing that everything is great, we end up compromising our values, standards, and our potential. In order for us to expand our lives and evolve, we must acknowledge the areas in which we would like to upgrade, or we will never move forward.
An example given by Lyndelle Palmer Clarke, from Dailygreatness, demonstrates that “If I’m always telling myself that my finances are great, when really I’m broke, I’ll never take the steps I need to take to truly improve my financial situation for good.” So, how do we become a naturally positive person?
The easiest way to maintain a positive mindset is to begin appreciating the smallest of things each day. Be grateful that you woke up and have another day to live. Be amazed at the beauty of the settings around you. If you start appreciating the small things and believe in the big things, they will eventually come.
Studies have shown that surrounding yourself with positive people will significantly reduce stress by filling you with energy and happiness, rather than draining it out of you. By avoiding negative and toxic people, you will feel that weight being lifted from your shoulders, because now you have time to focus on the positivity of the world around you.
“Good things happen in your life when you surround yourself with positive people.” — Roy T. Bennett. Although we cannot stay happy all the time, we can stay positive by knowing that everything will be okay. Being naturally positive is not about seeing only the happiness in life, but it is accepting every emotion you feel, dealing with it accordingly, and understanding that negativity will pass.
