Your attitude has a profound impact on every part of your life. Choosing to cultivate a positive attitude, rather than a negative one, brings not only more comfort but also greater rewards in the long run.
Your attitude shapes how you think, how you feel, and ultimately, how life responds to you. It’s not just about how others treat you—it’s about how you see and engage with the world around you.
We’ve all heard people say, “She has a great attitude,” or, “their attitude stinks,” but have you ever stopped to think about how your attitude affects your life?
For instance, if you have a negative attitude toward your work—constantly complaining about your clients, colleagues, or workload—it’s unlikely you’ll find much joy or success in it. A negative mindset will keep you focused on what’s wrong and close you off from seeing the good. In this case, you have two options: shift your attitude or find a different path. After all, who wants to work with someone who’s always negative?
Staying Above Negative Energy
We’ve all been there, drawn into someone else’s negativity. It can happen so easily, but it doesn’t serve you.
I used to get frustrated by drivers speeding through my village during my early morning walks. At first, I’d wave my arms to signal them to slow down. The responses were often rude, and I found myself reacting in anger. But eventually, I realised that by responding to their negativity, I was only dampening my own mood. Now, I choose to focus on my own positive energy and leave them to their uncomfortable thoughts. It’s made a world of difference in how I feel.
Turning the Impossible into Possible
When I set goals with my clients, I always encourage them to think big. Sometimes I hear, “That’s impossible.” But I remind them that everything seems impossible until it becomes possible. Remember when Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile? What seemed unachievable for decades was suddenly done and many times over in just a few weeks.
If you’ve been with me for a while, you know I believe that with the right mindset, you can achieve anything. Your mindset feeds your attitude, which shapes your behaviour and how you see the world. It’s all deeply connected.
Take a moment to reflect on your own attitude:
Do you believe you’re great at what you do, or do you find yourself downplaying your skills and giving others more credit?
Do you wake up excited to tackle your goals, or do you feel like success is something only others can achieve?
Do you start your day with a smile, or do you find yourself dreading what lies ahead?
Your attitude drives your behaviour, so if your mindset is negative, your actions will follow suit. The great news is, you have the power to change that.
Practical Ways to Shift Your Energy
Show appreciation: Express gratitude often. A simple “thank you” or compliment can elevate your energy and spread positivity to those around you.
Avoid gossip: Gossip creates negative energy and undermines trust. If someone is gossiping to you, chances are they’re gossiping about you too. Stay out of that cycle.
Be kind to yourself: You are just as capable as anyone else of achieving your goals. Success isn’t about innate talent; it’s about practice and a willingness to learn.
Assume the best in others: Spread optimism when you interact with people. You’ll be surprised at the effect it has—on them and on you.
Use positive language: Your words have power. Using positive, uplifting language boosts your energy and helps you stay in a higher vibration.
Your attitude is everything. When you choose positivity and set your focus on growth and possibility, you’ll see your business, relationships, and personal well-being flourish.
