Menopause and Christmas

With the festive season half-way through and rich food, drink and stress in abundance, how have you been dealing with your menopausal symptoms?

Have you noticed any difference?

From the messages I have read, there has been an increase for some, negative mood swings, increased flushes or just lots of tears.

Christmas brings many emotions, from stress of having to put your best foot forward and taking on additional tasks, when you are already struggling to do the ones you have; To guilt for not being able to buy your children the latest gadgets and designer clothes.

Do I have the answers? no, but you do. You know yourself better than anyone so

  • Don’t be hard on yourself, no one is perfect not even you

  • In a world where we focus on tangible things, remember the one thing that helps us grow and feel safe – Love and giving our time and the good news is they are both are free

  • Laughing is the best medicine for most ailments and often found in the simplest of situations from playing a board game to sharing memories

  • We can control what we eat, and if what you eat gives you flushes, then you have a choice, either stop eating it or just accept that you will have a flush. Let’s face it most flushes are over in a few minutes so if that mince pie or chocolate is really worth it – go for it.

  • Alcohol – For me I love red wine but since starting the menopause red wine is a no go for me unless, I want lots of flushes and a headache. So, if you like a tipple find something that does not give you flushes. For me by switching to white wine or vodka worked!

  • Finally give yourself a pat on the back. Someone once said to me that the most powerful praise in the world comes from within us, as we are the only one, we listen to, and they were right. No matter what anyone else tells us, we always believe what we tell ourselves above anything else. They say we look amazing we say we look awful! So, tell yourself ‘I am great’, ‘I am one of a kind’, ‘there is never going to be another me’.

So, stand tall and say, ‘I am enough’ and allow yourself to see how amazing you really are.
